Train Your Brain to Boost Memory
| 05/21/2018As we age, not only can we lose muscle mass, but our brain power tends to suffer as well. This loss of brain power can make it more and more difficult for us to perform mental tasks.
It is pretty obvious that we need to do physical exercise every day, eat healthily, get adequate sleep, and consume less toxic items such as alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes in order to keep our bodies healthy. Similarly, our brain needs to do some exercises so that its cognitive strength remains intact.
Here are a few good ones:
The Recall Test
The next time, before you go out for shopping, make a list of all the things that you need to buy. Once you are done buying everything, before the checkout, go through the list and tick everything that you just bought, which will help you gauge how much you remembered.
Associate Memory with Environmental Scents
There is a study that says if you study something wearing a certain scent and you go to the exam wearing the same scent then you are much more likely to remember what you studied. This is your brain associating your memory with the most powerful stimulant for your senses at that time, and that is the perfume. The next time you have a big test, pick your favorite aromatherapy patches and see if your recall is improved with the help of your favorite scent.
The Number Game
Pick any three-digit number, then add 3 to that number at least 4 times. Then subtract the number 7 from the answer at least 7 times. Do this exercise 5 times, each time with a different set of three-digit numbers.
Clench Your Fist
Research has found out that when you ball up your right hand into a fist whilst trying to memorize numbers and balling your left fist when you recall it again, you tend to activate the memory section of the brain which will help you remember the exact numbers.
