Reduce Feelings of Anxiety by Learning How to Read People’s Body Language
| 11/06/2017If being around people makes you nervous, there are some things you can do to alleviate your feelings of anxiety. One is to learn how to read people’s body language. Once you’re tuned into the messages your own body is relaying to others, the more confident you’ll feel when you’re surrounded by a crowd.
Reduce Feelings Anxiety by Learning Body Language
Here are some things to consider when it comes to body language:
- People don’t only communicate by spoken language. Eye contact, head movement, feet tapping, tongue clicking, hair flipping, and more can give you a lot of information about how a person feels in any given moment. The more you pick up on these cues, the easier your conversations become.
- Eye contact is very important. If a person tends to look around while talking to you, it’s a sign that they’re uncomfortable or trying to hide something. They may be feeling as anxious as you are. When a person looks you in the eyes, they’re making a sincere effort to connect with you. If the person you’re talking to looks up, they’re trying to connect with a memory that relates to the conversation. If they look down, however, they may be coming up with an excuse or a lie.
- Boredom evokes repetition. If someone is bored and ready to go, they may do the same actions over again. Boredom causes people to repeat behaviors. So, if you see someone tugging on their sleeve or chewing their lip, they’re most likely ready to go but haven’t said so.
